Our Mission
The Highlands Hockey Association’s mission is to cultivate a dynamic and supportive community where youth and high school athletes can develop not only as skilled hockey players but also as confident, disciplined, and well-rounded individuals. We are committed to providing a positive and inclusive environment that fosters teamwork, sportsmanship, and a passion for the game.
Our goal is to instill a love for hockey while promoting the values of dedication, perseverance, and respect both on and off the ice. Through expert coaching and a comprehensive development program, we strive to empower our players with the skills, knowledge, and character traits necessary to excel not only in the game, but in all facets of life.
As an organization, we are dedicated to fostering a sense of community among players, coaches, parents, and supporters. We believe that collaboration and open communication are essential in creating an environment where athletes can thrive. Together, we aspire to build a hockey program that not only achieves excellence on the ice but also enriches the lives of our players, instilling in them the values of integrity, resilience, and teamwork.
About The Program
The Highlands Hockey Association is a nonprofit organization founded in 1997 to support the youth and high school hockey programs for the Northern Highlands communities of Upper Saddle River, Saddle River, Ho-Ho-Kus and Allendale. The association, run by our board of directors, supportive parent volunteers and dedicated coaches, offers programs beginning with Learn-to-Skate all the way through high school, serving approximately 120 children each year ages 5-18. The majority of our programs and practices are run out of our home rink, Sport-o-Rama in Monsey, NY. Funding for our program comes from player fees, fundraising and community donations. Our History
Our program, founded in 1997, had an inaugural season with 35 players and two teams. By the following fall we had doubled in size and shortly thereafter the Northern Highlands Board of Education accepted our proposal to have a high school team. Since this time our Varsity program has become one of the premiere teams in the area winning state championships in 2018 and 2022, reaching the final 4 in 2008, 2009, 2019 and 2023 with Big North Conference championships in 2022 (Gold Cup Champions), 2021(Season Conference Champions) and 2020 (Silver Cup Champions). Much of the success of the program can be contributed to the continuity that Coach Beswick and his staff bring to the organization by getting to know players at the Mite level and continuing to engage with them as they advance.
